About Rujwa Organic
The brainchild of Ashwini Aurangabadkar, Rujwa Organic was born out of her long-standing love for green and growing things. Nature was a passion for her since childhood, and she was always curious to see what she could grow in her home garden. That, and an interest in eating healthy and chemical free food, led her to farming in 2008.
She left her thriving Chartered Accountancy practice to become a full time organic farmer in 2011, and was lucky enough to get acquainted with knowledgeable people in this journey. Never one to follow typical farming practices, she experimented with various crops and methods in her farm. Her creativity has driven the many unique products of Rujwa.
METHODS
To make sure that we don't hurt the environment and actually help it where we can, we practice several sustainable farming methods, like
- Using traditional seeds
- Contour bunding
- Drip irrigation
- Green manure
- Mixed-cropping
- Capturing and storing water in a "शेत तळं"
- Vermicompost
- Mulching with biomass
SOCIAL OUTREACH
At Rujwa, we believe that the only way to progress is if we take everyone with us. As part of this, for the last two years we've engaged ourselves with the community in the village of Ashtikala to find ways to help. This has been possible only with the support of Ashwini's Somalwar '80 batchmates.
- Each year we have organised medical camps for both awareness and checkup
- A general health camp
- A camp for ladies' health issues and questions
- And one for schoolkids
- A summer camp for school children each year, that covers maths, science experiments, games, stories, art and recitation of sanskrit shlokas.
Volunteers are always welcome! Contact us to know more.
